One of six girls, no brothers. Taught from an early age by a loving mother, that we as girls were not superior or inferior to men, we were equal. That was from the days before it became fashonable to burn your bras. Never saw the sense in that, it was damned uncomfortable without one. It had never passed my mind that we sisters weren't already equal. My mother was and will always be my inspiration. Although she never excelled in any particular craft she encouraged us in whatever we wanted to try. At 6 years old I sat at a treadle sewing machine. My sister 5, worked the treadle while I sewed. I sewed through my finger three times and had to wait until my mother freed me, it didn't stop me from trying again this time with her help. That's how I've always approached life, get in there and have a go.
Life is too short to sit around working up hatreds and being envious of others. Enjoy their successes and learn from them.
