The Dr. Ronald E. McNair Educational Science Literacy Foundation (D.R.E.M.E.) Foundation was created as a continuation of the youth education interests and legacy of the late Dr. Ronald E. McNair, who perished in the space shuttle “Challenger”. Dr. McNair was born of meager means in Lake City, SC but overcame many obstacles to become his high school class valedictorian, earn a BS in Physics from North Carolina A&T State University and a PhD in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and excelled as a research physicist at Hughes Research Laboratory. In 1978 he became a mission specialist astronaut for NASA. Dr. McNair dedicated his life to the youth of America. He spoke to students across the United States encouraging and motivating them to strive for excellence in all that they did and to be committed to achieving goals and dreaming with high aspirations.
