All my work is copyright ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. If you want to use an image, please ask me. Asking is nice and good manners when using someone else's work that they worked hard to create! I have prints and cards for sale, please email me at Flickr.
"Unless a landscape is invested with a sense of mystery, it is no better than a postcard" - Brett Weston

It's all about light
"There is still time - in the lee, in the quiet, in the extraordinary light"

"Your own photography is never enough. Every photographer who has lasted has depended on other people's pictures too - photographs that may be public or private, serious or funny, but that carry with them a reminder of community" - Robert Adams
My work and my vision of photography has developed so much more from being on Flickr and being able to see some of the inspiring work that many talented souls are creating every day. Photography is an endless source of fascination for us all, in it we see ourselves and our world anew

(prints and cards available, ask me); all my work is copyright
I am always fascinated by the workflow of other photographers. There are those who seek critical perfection while behind the lens in the studio or field, and those who spend more time developing and creating the work in the digital darkroom. There are those who seek to represent what they believe is there, with a focus on camera equipment and photographic technique, and those who try to evoke a style, feeling or mood who rely on layers, textures, and all kinds of image distortion technique to express an emotional truth rather than a camera truth. It seems people representing these two extremes do not necessarily approve of each others' work. I guess I am somewhere in the middle of those two styles, and I can go either way. I prefer my more fantasy based work to remain in the realm of "possibly realistic". My lifestyle and situation mean I am not free to travel or go to many locations and I must rely on quick shots taken near my home or work; I then do have time to develop these during the winter nights.Through this work I have been developing my vision of my inner world and my perceptions as expressed in images.

John Berger says some interesting things about photography, suggesting there are two types of image - those that "sell" themselves to you by their immediate beauty and attraction. These images collect many honours on Flickr. There are also images that are a world or a vision unto themselves, and the entrance to that world requires some skill or patience on the part of the viewer, as there may be few signposts. And of course as Flickr serves many different purposes, not only artistic and community, you also have to determine how to view each individual's photostream on their own terms.
As I send each set of images out into the world, I would like for them to touch and inspire others, and for these meetings to be meaningful.

.violaine. says:
"Alyss Thomas is someone of whom I've been aware on Flickr for a number of years now. Each time one of her images appeared, I would note it and enjoy it. As time has passed, however, I've lingered longer over each frame, each seeming to carry inside it even more beauty, more mystery. The most wonderful thing is that her landscapes are those all around me, as we seem to live in relatively close proximity. Therefore, I can look at her pictures, wish I was there… and I am. Thank you, Alyss, for showing me the magic of my landscape in a style all your own."
