Dear Friend,

When I served in the House of Representatives, I made a simple promise: to be an independent voice in the legislature. It was a promise I kept all three terms I was privileged to serve.

Much has changed since then. Michigan faces a time of unprecedented challenge. Jobs are in scarce supply. Unemployment has skyrocketed. Families are struggling more than ever to make ends meet.

But one thing has not changed. As I seek your support to be the next Senator for the 16th District, I pledge to be the same independent voice.

* Forming the policies we need to diversify our economy, to create new jobs throughout the 16th District, and to retain the ones we have.

* Preserving the agricultural heritage we enjoy.

* Ensuring that our schools prepare students to be
successful and productive citizens.

* Providing security and peace of mind for our
senior citizens.
