Amateur photographer who enjoys sailing & walking.

I started photography in my teens when I bought a Russian Zinit SLR with a 50 mm lens. I could not afford colour so I took up black and white, processing the film myself and enlarging in a bathroom converted into a dark room.
When I got married I bought a second hand Canon FT SLR with a F1.4 lens. This camera gave me some lovely images and I was now able to use colour because I took images of equipment failure for my company and they paid for my picture processing and enlarging!
My photos centred mainly on making a record of my family as they grew up because work commitments limited my spare time. Later I bought a Canon AE1 which I thought had erratic automatic exposure (much preferred the much slower manual stop down exposure on my old Canon FT) so I quickly part exchanged it for a Canon AE1 program which was much better but still not perfect.
By this time I was running my own chandlery business and simply rarely had a spare moment for photography. After working 31 days non stop, I decided to pack up chandlery and diverted into other investment businesses.
As my spare time grew, I decided to take up photography again. My Canon AEP program was by this time still working but bent from being dropped several times. My wife took pity and bought me a Canon EOS 500 with, unfortunately a lousy non Canon standard zoom. However this new camera renewed my love of photography and because of my other hobbies of sailing and walking, I decided to record those things that make Cornwall so enjoyable for me.
I now have a Canon 40D. Previously I had a Canon 20D. I am just getting proficient at making an electronic computer camera which has a mind of its own do the things I found second nature with my entirely manual cameras I used in my teens!
