Environmentalist/Sociologist/Activist, my photography focuses on using nature, architecture, and history to stimulate thinking about the relationship between environment and cultural identity. See my blog for more reflections on identity and other issues.

Based in Los Angeles, I spend much of my travel time camping and exploring in the rural U.S. West, though my pictures also go back into my history. Many of the Flickr members in my contacts are there because of their pictures of the rural West.

I am also an activist on sexuality and sexual orientation issues, but my photographing of humans doesn't work well so no pictures of gay pride parades or things like that! Thus, some of the Flickr members in my Contacts are there because of the quality of their pictures that are related to sexuality.

A word on my photography.... I would like to be able to take much better pictures and have considered getting better equipment. BUT, my approach in life is one of encouraging ordinary citizens, and particularly working-class citizens, to explore AND to document and share. In keeping with this approach, it seems inappropriate to use expensive equipment or to do high-tech processing, thus my photography is with a relatively cheap camera and I seldom do any processing other than cropping.

My icon photo is the family Rambler station wagon. Photo was taken on the beach near Jacksonville, some time around 1954.

Note also that Flickr requires a statement in the profile regarding my age -- I'm well over 18, 62 when I wrote this.
