April 2009: Became interested in digital photography while taking souvenir shots with my "point & shoot" in Seoul, South Korea (Republic of Korea). The prices for gadgets (including cameras, lenses, etc.) in Seoul were a little better than in the States, so I upgraded to a full-frame DSLR and lens.

September 2009 : Began traveling the US three weeks of each month on average so by default I focused on travel photography.

July 2010: Alana was deployed to Afghanistan. In order to help boost her morale I learned how to use Photoshop CS5 to make goofy composites of myself in various awkward situations or maybe just weird composites in general. Also happened to sign up for a National Geographic Expeditions Photography Workshop which was great for travel and street shots (but they weren't very impressed with my PS abilities). Ha ha.

February 2011: Started courses with New York Institute of Photography to earn certification (mostly just for the fun of it).

May 2011: One of the NYIP units focuses on portraiture. Because I was running out of family and friends willing to sit patiently while I experimented with various off-camera lighting and available lighting techniques, I began working with models in the local area and in whatever city I happened to be visiting.

December 2011: On my last unit with NYIP. Still enjoying portraiture the most, by far, with travel and crazy PS composites not far behind.

Since that summer of 2009 I've read over 40 books, viewed over 25 online tutorials (Kelby Training), taken two courses (including NYIP), and taken over 10,000 photographs.

Anyway, I hope to continue improving and having fun.
