Dig Downtown Detroit!

Greater Downtown Detroit is made up of five unique districts each with its own array of fun, excitement, and entertainment -- Downtown, Midtown, Corktown, Eastern Market, and New Center.

Downtown Detroit is located on the Detroit River and stretches northward to the Fisher Freeway. Many key businesses are located here, including General Motors and Compuware. It is home to a variety of entertainment venues, including Comerica Park, Joe Louis Arena, Ford Field, the Fox Theatre, Cobo Center, MGM Grand Detroit, Motor City Casino Hotel, Greektown Casino, numerous fine dining and cozy eateries, and clubs.

Midtown Detroit extends northward from the Fisher Freeway to the Ford Freeway. Among the cultural icons located here are the Detroit Symphony, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.

Corktown is the oldest neighborhood in Detroit, tracing its roots to the Great Irish Potato Famine of the 1840s. The residential section is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is designated as a City of Detroit Historic District.

Detroit Eastern Market is the largest historic public market district in the United States. Every Saturday, Michigan's largest and most colorful market is host to more than 150 farmers and vendors from Michigan, Ohio, and Canada offering a cornucopia of fruits, vegetables, breads, baked goods, jellies, jams, honey, apple cider, cheeses, spices, herbs, plants and flowers.

New Center is located 3 miles north of the Detroit River, immediately north of the Wayne State University campus and the Midtown district. Community landmarks include the Fisher Building, Cadillac Place (the former General Motors Building), the Henry Ford Hospital campus, TechTown, and New Center Commons Historic District.
