Diego Cupolo was born to Italian parents in Mexico City and lived in Caracas, Venezuela as a child. He was educated in the Northeast United States and is based in New York City. Today, he continues floating around the planet and is currently traveling through Latin America.

Diego observes humans as a species – how they live, their relation to one another and to their environments. He focuses on urban street scenery, disparity of living conditions, decay, consumerism, poverty, and the use and misuse of human-made structures, objects and tools. More specifically, Diego tries to document paradoxes created by greed and individualism among interdependent social beings. He also documents daily life and spontaneous encounters.

Overall, he aims to capture images we often ignore as a society. For example, the homeless. What is hard to face, usually deserves a closer look.

Diego has a background in journalism, environmental science, media literacy and sociology. Most recently, he served as associate editor for BushwickBK.com, an online newspaper in Brooklyn, New York. His written and visual work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The Village Voice, The Star-Ledger, The Hartford Courant, The Australian Times, Discover Magazine, and various publications.
