I'm a professional writer and performer, an amateur rock-balancer and hobbyist photographer. I ride a bike and play poker too.

The best way of looking at my photos is probably by looking at my sets. These are the shots that have been favourited by most people. I like most of them too. These are the shots deemed most interesting by flickr's own peculiar algorithm. Not that you can actually 'measure' interestingness.
Photography is very much a hobby but I've been surprised and flattered by the reaction to some of my photos and a fair few have now been published in magazines, books and on websites. If you would like to use a photo for something - and you want to do so without reference to my day job - then please ask. Most people do. The Evening Standard didn't.

For reasons I don't understand, it seems a lot of people leave comments on photos that don't actually relate to the photo at all but instead are passing on some comment about my work. Please don't. I don't advertise what I do for a living and I'd rather you didn't either.
Explaining what it is about flickr that I like so much takes up more words than is seemly here... but I did once try to write an article that explained it.

I own a Coolpix 8400 which I rarely use since buying a D70S. I also have a pocket size, point-and-shoot Coolpix s7c which I'm far from sure was a good buy. Especially as I still have the Coolpix 775 which I used pre-flickr and while not as pocket-sized it is small and, to my mind, easier to shoot with. I have a Polaroid Spectra (which I like), a Polaroid 600, (which I don't) and a Polaroid Macro 5 SLR which is odd because I'm not a dentist but which I'm determined to find an interesting use for.
I should eat more soup but then so should you.
I'm Male and Single.

"Dave Gorman without a doubt is one of the Few that help to Popularized the Art of Balancing Rocks - Stones - Pebbles."
shwe says:
"I was cycling around the East End the other day, and was amazed at how much of what I saw had been conditioned by Dave Gorman's photographs and his eye for the vivid and vibrant. A wonderful photographer!"
art assci(paul) says:
"Dave your Chicago night scenes absolutely rock,
your cloud shots are strat·o·spher·ic, your canyon pics grand
and
happily you escaped the Chicago grain tower amish mob.
Stay around,
have fun
and keep snapping.
I know I will.
Good grief - Dave even gets featured in a recent issue of one of the top UK photo mags. Good onya matey.
Ps You were in Chicago and did not visit Flickr's Dr Joanne - shame on you!
There's always next time....I think she has a neighbor - beware neighbor she has a HUGE icicle and you never know what she might do with it....(is that ok?)..."
jeffclow says:
"Dave is a very talented photographer - and one quick look through his photostream will confirm that fact. His diversity of subjects and his unique style produces images that are visually interesting and always intriguing.
But what you might not know is that this talented man is also a generous member of the Flickr community who takes the time - and makes the effort - to praise other's works here on a regular basis.
Flickr is a better place because Dave is involved here, and I'm proud to call him a friend...."
Lú_ says:
"I'm pretty sure I found Dave's pictures from some rocks (I can't even balance *one* rock, myself). Now I wait to see where in the world Dave is now, and to see it through his lens. And I cross my fingers that there will be doorbells there."
