The Moving Pictures of Derek Doublin's photostream

I am a reckless artist filled with nonsense and sympathy. I drive fast and wash my cotton jersey sheets in as much fabric softener as possible. I drink with friends and play music often. I am also a filmmaker and a painter.

I enjoy shooting things out of tubas and developing forgotten rolls of film. I also enjoy thunderstorms, front porches, red pandas, mexican vanilla, the color blue, decrepit structures, milkshakes, and driving in the country. Someday I hope to stumble into a good ol' fashioned cowboy bar fight (the kind where EVERYONE fights) and hit someone with a flimsy, wooden chair. I like pictures of country fields but I hate pictures of the spiders that live in those fields. I like sitting in a hot tub when it's snowing. I also like driving with all the windows down.

a few years ago,
the universe was described to me,
by a university physicist slumped over a tom collins,
as a "HALL OF MIRRORS"
where light was bouncing around all over the place.

he stated that what may look like a distant star to us,
could possibly be light emitted from our own star,
that has traveled through space, bounced around,
and returned.

this means that one of those stars,
we stare at on occasion,
could be the milky way galaxy
as it existed millions and millions of years ago;

an old gallery of portraits and scratched up records,
chipped paint and fiery embers,
memories...
tucked inside an envelope
and laid across the sky.

in a single generation,
we have learned more about the cosmos,
than we did in all the centuries that came before.

and as it stands now,
our generation is currently working on a telescope powerful enough to reach...

the light,
from the birth
of the universe.
