American from the Jersey shore, but been living in the UK since the late sixties. English teacher, recently retired, as of July 2011. Very pleased to be officially an Old Age Pensioner as of my sixtieth birthday three years ago - hence qualifying for a free bus pass. Began my DSLR obsession with a Nikon D90, and it was love at first sight, despite the steep learning curve, from point-and-shoot to ISO, aperture and shutter speed.

As of March 2011 bought a second-hand D700 and really am loving it. I'm keeping my D90, however. It's lighter and feels like an old friend. Plus the D700 needs its sensor cleaning, and I can't be without a camera now.

I'll photograph anything from buskers and the contents of bric-a-brac shops, to my grandchildren or strangers on the tube. Anything is up for grabs, but I tend to take more portraits than anything else. The human face. Can you ever get tired of it?

For the benefit of the Senior Moments Group: I am well over fifty! (Thirteen years over, to be precise.)

    Cardboard Sea says:

"To adequately express the gravity of this testimonial, I'll preface it by saying that this is first one I've left on Flickr.

Dee is the perfect contact: She leaves constructive criticism and warm praise for others, which is precisely what Flickr should be about. I would conjecture this is an extension of her profession as a teacher.

I admire her tenacity at becoming a better and more skilled photographer, and her work certainly shows it. She seems to capture random objects, people (particularly her family), and moments in such an exquisite way.

If Flickr were filled with more photographers like her, imagine how we could build ourselves up and learn from each other.

    Thanks, Dee."

    Edson_Matthews says:

"Dee has a wonderful eye and a wonderful heart. She is extremely humble about her own photos while making you feel extremely good about yours. She is a constant encourager and sincerely grateful for kudos or critique.

I'm convinced that any Flickr user could look through her photostream and find a shot to learn from. In that sense, she's a teacher through and through. In the same vein, anyone could look through her photostream and find a photo to remember. Not just a photo to toss into a pile of favorites in some server a thousand miles away, but one that will actually spring to mind later when you're looking through your own eye-piece and lens. I see a teenager mugging for the camera. I see Rosie's beaming face. I see a wizened look frozen in grayscale. I see faces everywhere I have yet to photograph and when I finally frame these shots I will think, "What would Dee do with this?""

    Uncle Berty says:

"I am so pleased I found Dee on Flickr, her photos in general are always a pleasure to view but it is her B&W photos that wow me most. She has completely taken my favourite group by storm and I will be extremely proud to have my photos printed alongside hers when we get the 2009 book published.

You're still more than welcome to come and shoot my Bucks bees anytime you like :)"

"I LOVE DeeMac's photostream. I always look out for her when I check what my contacts have been up to!
The quality is consistently very high but what I like best is that the subject matter is constantly changing. There is so much variety in there, from macro to tender children's portraits , street photography to high school students and face painting ! How can there not be something for everyone ! :)
Most of all, I can't thank Dee enough for being such a fantastically supportive flickr friend! Thankyou!!
Flickr, for me, wouldn't be the same without you ! :)"

    ~A.n.a~ says:

"What draws me to Dee's work are her portraits. She captures real raw beauty and emotions of people (especially of her gorgeous grandchildren) and conveys such sincerity in them. I adore her use of natural lighting, she knows how to compose a perfect portrait and illuminate her subjects in such a surreal way.

Dee is one of my first friends on Flickr, she has been incredibly supportive with my work, sharing her tips and advice. That's one of the things I love about her is her honesty.

I'm enjoying our journey together of discovering photography Dee and I look forward to more of your work. :)"
