  As I indulged in these gems from the past, I found myself brimming with alternating feelings of absolute delight and abject frustration. I was delighted to see tangible proof that the dusty annals of history were not nearly as prudish, moral, or inhibited as I was previously led to believe. I was frustrated to realize that we modern day men are not nearly as liberated or free-spirited as we think we are.
  
  In my humble opinion, I believe that the morals and manners of present-day men have rapidly regressed - to the point of supreme suppression. Despite gay liberation and supposed personal freedom of lifestyle and expression - we are prisoners of a drastically rigid (no pun intended) and uptight society. Any form of physical expression between men is considered completely taboo. I'm not only talking about gay men, but straight ones as well.
  
  The intense expressions of affection and comradship depicted between the men in these photos is touching as well as amazing. There was a refreshing innocence and shamelessness and honesty that makes me desperately yearn for the past.
  
  Many of the men in these photos were undoubtedly gay, some were unquestionably lovers. There are also, however, an impressive number of straight (or ALMOST straight) men who had no hangups about showing genuine physical affection for their buddies.
  
  I hope others will find this photographic journey through the past as wonderful as I did. I especially hope we can all learn something from it.
