I'm a botanist and gardener in Washington, DC. I have authored or co-authored several papers on the plant family Gesneriaceae. My gardening interests are eclectic and wide-ranging and include gesneriads, begonias, hardy palms, and just about anything else that's tropical or exotic. I've also been an amateur plant breeder for 20+ years; I've named and released numerous hybrids in the genera Sinningia, Chirita, Kohleria, Seemannia (Gesneriaceae) and I'm starting to work with the genus Begonia.

I'm also the organizer/moderator of an online gardening group called DCTropics (groups.yahoo.com/group/dctropics), whose members are interested in growing hardy palms, bananas, and other zone-pushing plants in the Washington, DC area.
