I used to be able to blame some of the crumminess of my photos on my poor choice of camera. Now I shoot with a Canon 350D, though, the problem is definitely my eye. Har, har, pant, wheeze.



The really good photos in these collections are taken by my wife, Zoe, who I reckon has an amazing eye for composition.

We shoot through an EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens most of the time. I'm stlil experimenting with my new EF 50mm f/1.4 USM, which I bought for indoor flash-free photographs of fast moving children forgetting that they move too fast in the Z axis to get focus with a 1cm depth of field. I'm going to have to get a lot more cunning about how I set up shots.

I keep going back to Darren Rowse's article Which Lenses to Take as a lens shopping list, so next after the f/1.4 will be the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM for some decent wide angle action or one of the cheaper telephotos. If, that is, Zoe lets me spend yet more money on glass. I think she'll insist I take a course first, which doesn't hugely worry me. I also think she'll also insist on new gutters, which is fair. :)
