Photography and I
I have always been interested in photography since I was young. This fact can be traced back to one of my middle school essays (thanks to my mom who saved the paper). With this desire, I have always looked at scenery and objects with an artistic composition. However, I never had the technical equipment to take quality pictures and model inspirational photographs. I only had the opportunities to use very generic film cameras with limited features.

In July 2005, I purchased my first camera with enough features to get me seriously involved in amateur photography - a Canon Powershot S2 IS. This camera allowed me to press forward in my desire and to develop technical skills. Unfortunately in January 2008, the S2 IS died. On the upside, it allowed me to delve even further into photography by aquiring my first SLR - a Canon EOS 40D.

Shortly after purchasing my first camera, I stumbled across a photography sharing website called Flickr. After taking a few initial pictures, I began to upload my photographs to my Flickr page. I quickly realized that the free account would not suffice for my needs, so I upgraded to a pro account.

I thrive off of photographing the natural, scenic, interesting, and inspirational elements. I love photographing nature for two main reasons:
1) Nature is naturally beautiful. However, finding the composition to capture the way I see elements or want to convey a subject is a constant, but welcome challenge.
2) I love to visit new places and see the natural elements in various forms. I'm constantly on the lookout for new places to see and experience. Living in Oregon gives me ample opportunity to visit a vast array of climates and environments to photograph.

I thank my wife for encouraging me to continue my passion of photography, and also for pointing out opportune subjects. Without my wife, I believe I wouldn't posses the same level of creativity or enthusiasm.

Publicity
In May 2006, Cortina Studios in association with Discovery Education oversaw the production of an educational video developed for elementary and middle schools. The film they were producing focused on plant life. Cortina expressed interest in two of my photographs for use in the production.

In August 2006, I entered six of my photographs into the 2006 Oregon Salon of Photography, part of the Oregon State Fair. Out of the six, five were accepted for display on the exhibition floor.

In May 2007, Excell Executive Leadership Exchange used three of my photographs in their website redesign. The photos they used helped to add to an Oregon/Northwest theme. My photos can be seen rotating through an animation on their front page at www.excelloregon.com
