Retinoblastoma is the most common eye cancer affecting babies and young children. The most common early sign is a white glow seen in flash photographs and dim light. Survival is above 96% in developed countries, but earlier diagnosis would give many children a better chance of saving their sight.
Due to global population distribution, 94% of affected children live in developing countries. Limited resources, poor awareness and poverty condemn 8 in 10 children – 7,000 children every year - to a slow and agonising death.
Every child deserves the best opportunities to overcome cancer and have a good quality of life when cure is not possible. Daisy’s Eye Cancer Fund aims to bring those opportunities to all children by
• Educating the public and medical community about retinoblastoma to achieve early diagnosis and rapid referral to specialist care;
• Empowering teams to develop sustainable quality retinoblastoma programs that give each child the best possible care with available resources;
• Enabling family support programs that reduce practical, emotional, financial and social burdens, and improve access to and compliance with essential care.
We work from the grassroots to national level, and encourage families, medical teams and other stakeholders to be active leaders in the process of developing high quality sustainable care.
Many precious young lives and eyes WILL be saved by increasing awareness and access to existing therapies around the world. Please join us in this journey by sharing our photos with your friends to help raise awareness that truly can save lives!
