"Flying white": let the brush bristles spread, foster the happy accident. Be prepared and quick to get out of your own way.

"Flying white" is the English translation of the Japanese "hihaku": in Zen calligraphy, the beautiful unpredictable gaps in line and shading. I like that.

I also like healed holes in trees, fire, and stoid. Stoid is the bumbling, jealous and occasionally endearing cousin of hikaku.

I am much more stoid than hikaku.

In my photographic dreams I do all that slowfood pinhole/holga stuff, after leisurely finishing the NYTimes crossword and walking my pretendog. In my real hands is a Canon point n shoot.
