Kathy Cano-Murillo, the Crafty Chica

I'm a binge crafter and artist who somehow found a way to make a living out of it. I author craft books, write novels and run a Latino art biz with my husband, ChicanoPopArt.com.

My biggest challenge is that I'm addicted to bright colors, hi-gloss varnish and glitter. My designs often tend to lean that way. I break out in hives if I try to design with pastels, muted tones or monochromatic color schemes. We have two kids and four chihuahuas.

I work for iLoveToCreate.com, designing my Crafty Chica product line and acting as a national spokesperson for Aleene's adhesives, Tulip Fashion Art and Duncan Ceramics.

My debut novel, WAKING UP IN THE LAND OF GLITTER, was released in March 2010. My second novel, MISS SCARLET'S SCHOOL OF PATTERNLESS SEWING will publish in March 2011. Both are through Grand Central Publishing.

    deedeedowns says:

"Kathy is even more extraordinary than she appears at first glance. She and Patrick are, admittedly, inspired artists...their designs, compositions, and colors are vibrant and ingenious; their product line is original (and, okay, a bit addictive); but it is Kathy's dedication to her fellow beings that lifts everything she touches into the realm of the sublime. If you don't believe me, just ask her chihuahuas!"

    Skelekitty (Krissi Sandvik) says:

"Kathy's colorful personality and positive outlook rubs off on you, not unlike the glitter that floats around her like a cloud of Technicolor fairy dust!"

    Terry.Tyson says:

"Kathy's approach to art, craft and living combines true original vision with a deep nod to and an understanding of her cultural roots. And she does it with a style that is unmistakably her own.

What's more, she and her talented husband, Paul, makes the Murillo family truly an artistic force worth noting.

It doesn't hurt that she is one of the most adorable persons you'll meet in this short exercise we call "life".

Watch out world, ¡el chica del arte está aquí!*

*sorry, "crafty chica" doesn't translate too easily!"
