CHECK ME OUT AT THE KACHMANN: www.kachmanngallery.com/artist14.html

STATEMENT:

I became a photographer because I’m a lazy writer. And so it should be immediately noted that the imagery I typically sew together is meticulous, structurally obsessive, and doesn’t necessarily concern itself with any sort of palpable beauty. I shoot photographs because I want to tell stories. And while some might find that difficult to do in one frame, it’s all the more rewarding (for me, of course) when all the pieces fit together and transcend the petty limitations of four corners.

I’d like to say I’m a surrealist photographer—but I think my images are too vicious and cynical to be considered such. Because I have this terrible weakness for that delicious literary device, irony. Although, there are a few essentials that I typically like to work in; classical composition, epic scenescapes, and characters frozen in an almost heroic, glorified sincerity--And please take note that I use the word ‘character’ as opposed to ‘model’--The images I make are meant to be thematic regurgitations of what I consider a generally horrible and aware “pop culture” element—set within the confines of classical, painter-esque portraiture. Hence the sinister, over-sexed, poised and posed dramatic setups.

My photos very much resemble the prototype for the typical western narrative in the sense that, thematically they deal with either A)a relationship, and/or B) isolation from said relationship(whether that be internal or external). The result being what is hopefully relevant, domestic and social commentary. It is my sincere opinion that I haven’t yet artistically eclipsed in this seemingly unending endeavor, but I think you’ll find that there are moments where I brush up against my ideals.

"POST LOVE"

MY EVIL PLOY TO GET A WIDE ANGLE LENS: OK, more or less the idea of selling prints through Flickr makes me queesy (I'm hear for the free exchange of ideas). However, I'm just a poor college student working towards his English degree--and about the one and only material possession in this world that is going to make me happy is a friggin' wide angle lens. SO, I had this evil idea to start selling prints--and using any money generated to get a lens, so I can start having some REAL fun.

SO--If you'd like to help support a "just cause" (in my mind), I'll be selling prints of anything you find in my photostream at $50 bucks a pop. If you're at all interested (and if you are, bless your heart)---feel free to e-mail me at: CountVonSexy@aol.com and we'll work something out.

And just for the record, this does make me feel dirty.

LOVE, DAVID
