Since its creation in 1949, the Council of Europe has been promoting democracy, the protection human rights and the rule of law accross the European continent. Today, this intergovernmental organisation influences the quality of life of 800 million citizens by developing legal standards and helping its 47member states to enforce them.

The Council's member states* cooperate to find solutions to today’s major challenges such as corruption, respect of ethnic minorities, cybercrime, bioethics, or domestic violence.
