Medium format shooter. Predominantly via 645DF, but I also use a technical camera for wide-angle and architectural imagery.

I studied physics in college. While my studies were largely Newtonian, Classical, I did happen to take more than a few courses in optics. From here, my obsession with cameras, lenses, and photography in general started. I am fascinated by light and its behavior. While I'm not trying to discover anything new, there's something intrinsically interesting just learning about how things work.

To be honest, I'm a bit of an elitist. I'm also critically judgmental, and easily irritated. Scientific by nature, I often express things in a way that is . . . shall we say, not always well-received. I do occasionally give advice, but the odds are likely the person on the receiving end won't have the experience or education necessary to implement it. Not only will the recipient not possess the knowledge to implement the advice, the odds of an argument or emotional flareup are nearly 100 percent likely.

I make few comments anymore for this reason.

I have a longer list of "hates" about photography and "kitsch" art, in general, than anyone I know. I think the world would have been a better place had Warhol never existed; the same goes for Thierry Guetta. I could arduously compile my list of photographic dislikings, but that would take time, and I'd actually have to think about them. Which, to be honest, would raise my blood pressure. Let's make things simple. If you have a penchant for creating kitschy-shit diptychs, HDR via Photomatix, digitally framing your images, posting cliche wedding and or thoughtless "model" photography, portraiture with a tilt (oh, so edgy), "scene photography," faked "cross processed" digital, or, lastly, "pregnant stomach" images, well, I wish cancer upon you. Of the head.

If that weren't enough, well, there's the hit-and-run style commenting that's been going on in the Flickr scene for such a long time. You know what I mean, even if you haven't quite figured it out. Doesn't it bother you when you've posted your image to a group, and made comments -- you know, with words, and thoughts, only to have others just post random .gif images in your photostream? It bothers the hell out of me. For a while, I blocked everyone that did this, and then I just stopped giving a shit about Flickr, as I was blocking 5-10 people per day. Long story short -- It's irritating, and I'll probably still block you for it, whenever I get around to it.

Lastly, and this is simply an extension of the last, if you post a comment with a signature in it showcasing your "interesting images," not only will I block you, I'll seek a deity in which I can believe that will smite your stupid ass into the ground. Don't do that shit; it's annoying.

So, if you're still reading, thanks. If you find it necessary to remove and or block me from your own list of contacts, by all means, I won't blink twice. Odds are, however, if you're a thoughtful person with an eye for color and composition, you'll agree with most everything I've said. And those are the people I want as friends/contacts, anyway.
