When I was about 10 years old I had a six-20 Brownie Jr. and I was hooked.
By the time I was 12, I had started to develop and contact print in a makeshift darkroom without running water.
With the avaialbility of "the flash bulb" I graduated to "serious" pictures. Eventually to a 35mm Canon FTB, a Canon F1n, and then a medium format RB67.! Digital brought with it a tryout of a 1MP Kodak (not worth the $1000. !!. Then a real SLR in Digital, the Canon 20D.
Even though I had always been employed, I have pursued photography as a business from the early days. I Photographed and often printed, Proms, Portraits, Product Shots, Sr. Photos and Weddings for much of my life. I wish I had spent the majority of my time in photography as it can be and has been financially rewarding. I have found that, like most things, It is all about marketing!
In the 1970,s I had my first serious (read color) darkroom and most of that equipment now lies fallow as the digital revolution has driven me upstairs to the computer.
Now my Photographic World is Photoshop CS5, Lightroom 3, and Photomatix and my cameras are the, the new Full Frames Canon 5D and 5DM2, as well as the now aging ,1D Mark3, (I still have most all of my old cameras mentioned above as well as the color darkroom equipment). I am trying to learn to shoot Sports and fast moving birds with my 70-200 f2.8 IS and my new Canon 500 f4. Until I left film, all my subjects were of the static variety.
I had never owned an autofocus camera until I moved to digital in 1999/2000 as I was totally satisfied with the split screen system. It is a whole new experience for me, but it comes at a time when my eyes need the technology.
My journey through the wonderful World of Photography is only rivaled in interest and expense by my pursuit of good sound from stereo sytems, tandem bicycle touring, good books and good red wine.
2010 will nearly complete my 75th year of life. I have many thousands of unscanned slides and negatives, . . . . many thousands. My Nikon 9000 scanner sits there useless because Nikon stopped supporting it, Do I need a new slide scanner to save all the images that I never got to? Or is digitizing really saving anything but digital soup? Do I really need anything but the Sunrise at this time in my life?
Where has all this time gone. . .? I love every minute of this life I have. There are so many things I want to learn and understand at this advanced age. Have I waited too long?
I am MALE and Married

"Dad,
The pictures you have taken of my children over the years are now my treasures. When I grow up, I want to shoot just like you. Your style is unique and one that I love. Thanks for a lifetime of memories captured by your talented eyes and hands."30th July, 2007

"When I first bought a camera at a pawn shop, I was trying to be like you. I've watched you shoot photographs and listened to your lessons since I was a boy. You gave me my first camera.
Everytime I think I've gotten better, I look at your shots and get annoyed. Consistent exposure and tone, classic composition and framing. I remember the lessons once I see your shots -- I just need to remember them behind the camera.
