I have a little more time for photography and genealogy these days. I bought my first camera when I was a teenager finishing up with a Prackica Super TL. Not an expensive camera but it could do anything I asked of it. My first digital was a Nikon Coolpix 995 which I still use. It's slow to start up and won't produce RAW images but is great for close up work, I can focus on my thumb nail. The main camera is a Lumix DMC-FZ30 which I bought second hand. It suits me fine. Whenever possible I carry a camera with me. Recently bought myself a Epson V700 negative scanner, so I shall be able to delve back into my archives. I have a Nikon D5000 with 18-55 lens, still trying to get to grips with it. Added a 55-200, 55macro lens, 11-16 Tokina wide angle and a 70-300 telephoto, now I'm broke.
I use Photoshop CS3 and Oloneo PhotoEngine which gives particularly good results on polished objects.
I'm a member of the Gloucester Camera Club.
