Some people ask why I spend time photographing derelict, decaying, run down buildings.

It's an easy question to answer but also a complex one: because it's there, because I can are instant answers but not the whole story. Ask any URBEX fanatic out there and there will be various answers; asylums make great backdrops for fashion / art; we document the past; the buildings are of historical / architectural importance; we like decay / dirt / dodging security etc.

In truth most of the above applies to most people, certainly for me the reality is that I love architecture, I am saddened that these great buildings have been allowed to decay and dismayed that most get knocked down to make way for luxery flats.
