ChicagoEye's photostream |
Chicago born and bred... digs cities, movies, Old School Funk/Neo Soul/Hip Hop, jazz...Most importantly: Father of three beautiful daughters.
One more thing: I'll block ya---I'll block ya good--if you fave my pix, but have none of your own to show. And if your stream consists of screen grabs of other people's work, I'll block ya good there, too. Otherwise, enjoy.

"Lee has a fantastic eye, and brings a gifted intelligence to his photography. As an architect I very much appreciate his insight and curious nature. And he's a great guide to the architecture of Chicago. The two hours we spent with him walking around downtown was like a whole term in a university class! Someday he will get a medal or the key to the city I predict, for all the love and care he brings to the built environment. He also has an eye for the beautiful in many other ways as well! ;-)"

"I have been a member of Flickr since the beginning of '06 and while exploring some of the membership I immediately fell in love with Lee's shots. When I am online and viewing Flickr, I am always taken back by the shots that Lee has taken in the Chicago area. He has mastered the urban setting from buildings to the people of the urban center. There is something to be said about humanity and I believe that Lee's pictures say just that. It has often been said that a picture is worth a thousand words. I think I could write a book on ChicagoEye's pictures. Keep inspiring!!!"

"My context for Lee is as a fellow writer and fellow amateur Chicago historian, as well as a cultural and architectural critic and all around good guy. I was already completely impressed with him in all those roles and to now find out that he is an amazing photographer too? Is there nothing this man can't do, and do extremely well?"

"I'm not sure what I can add that hasn't already been said. Lee is definitely an inspiration to me and as we came to know each other a little better, I learned we share a love of BW photography.
He has some of the most inspiring photos on Flickr and through him, I feel as though I know his hometown as a native would. He has a gift for showing 'real people' the people we see everyday, the ones we might just past right by without noticing.
I think that's the sign of one gifted with the sight and I'm glad he allows the rest of us to live vicariously through him.
Lee is inspirational and the nice thing about getting to know him has been learning that no matter how much fame he's attained or how many people know his name, he's amazingly down to earth.
Thanks for sharing. You give the rest of us something to shoot for."9th May, 2006

"Chicago's(all seeing)Eye, has made me mark many of his photos as favourites which few have been able to do consequtively! ~ whilst some peoples photos balance between staged, pretencious or commercial sensibilities, ChicagoEye's images are real, the stage is the street and this man has recorded the everyday and everyone of his environment, the simple, but albeit important aspects to life we either ignore , love or hate!~ a great encourager to many in flickrdom and an endless source of wisdom and humility, what would flickr be wihout the EYE of Chicago!"

"I'm new to the fam, but I have been looking at ChicagoEye's photos for a minute. His work inspired me to get back into taking pictures. The b&w shots of our beloved Chicago & his family are excellent. It is most definetly a pleasure to view his work! I also love the set of the old school album covers...I myself am a "FUNKATEER" so I can really appreciate those. Keep it up!!!"

it's a pleasure to be able to spend (a chunk of!) time peoplewatching through Lee's eyes.

"ChicagoEye
Like ripples of jazz
Caught mid stanza
His charcoal sketches
Be lie insight
Clicking off pieces of the truth
Yes sir
Perfectly placed moments
Portraits of a city
In all its breathing-ness
Deacon says
Tell the truth
Deep bellows of laughter
Spill out unarmed
And unthreatening
From the hollow
home of the wind
A man in control of his city
ChicagoEye
Sharp eye sharp wit
Bust'n words
Light finger on the shutter
It Clicks
Like caps echoing off
Deadlocked doorsteps
Southside stoops
And elevated expectations
Cracked Black Stone pavement
Past plausible
Dangerous moments
That tells us
We are all one people
Nothing to be afraid of
Come on in
And the drums transform
into hip hop rhythm
Lay’n track for Chi-town
Gut bucket blues
On the one
WATCH HIM
BIRD
FREDERICK DOUGLASS PERRY"28th June, 2005

"I've been meaning to write this for a while.
ChicagoEye has a great eye, most especially for candid street life shots that make me feel like I'm there, but also for his warm and sincere family pictures which are often accompanied by laugh-out-loud comments.
Always interesting, often fun, and over-modest (extemely amateur photographer indeedy! Change that profile sir!)
PS added June2005 - you have to check out the vintage ads and funk album sleeves collection. People of a certain age will appreciate their past being brought back with such love and good humour, while youngsters will just shake their heads and chuckle at how uncool their parents must have been ;-)"3rd June, 2005
