    Kalliope Amorphous says:

"I am absolutely gobsmacked to have discovered the work of Chiaroscura. Her work is at once powerful and dramatic, soft and delicate, magical and evocative, vivid and softly ethereal. Her color palettes and tones are pure beauty, and they are only matched in beauty by her gaze, which seems to encapsulate the essence of the muse itself. There is a strong sense of the classic in her work, and it is absolutely pure and without pretense. A rare breed of captivating imagery, indeed.

I am definitely looking forward to seeing more of her work, and am happy to have found a new Flickr favorite!"

    Arbor Lux says:

"Kristinas Stream contains real magic, Here’s why:

When you look at her work as whole you see body of images that make up an evocative and atheistically brilliant exposition of variations in photographic style. It is precisely the consistent meditative quality of her gaze that allows us to see clearly the variations of style, texture, framing, mise en scene, and color she employs in her portraits. Some are 'clean' some are bright, others dark and remote. The fact that she has a face that is as classically beautiful as the best renaissance portraits, adds greatly to the mesmerizing aesthetic quality of the portraits when the are viewed as a collective artistic statement.

In great film acting, especially close ups, there is a necessity for actors to drop pretense and forced projection of character and rely instead on inner emotion to create a more realistic and subtle expression that allows us to enter into the characters experience. It has been said that the definition of a ‘star’ in cinematic terms is an actor who in addition to having this non-pretentious acting ability, also possesses the enigmatic quality of being able to act as a cipher and mirror for the audience on an archetypal level. This is the exact quality I see in Kristina’s Portraits. They are at once magical and mysterious and very special.

Her images feel on a par to me with some of the most classic film stills, and I always find my self processing her work in the context of cinematic imagery. Now, the film still, when taken out of context of the film it comes from, becomes an enigmatic experience in and of itself. When looking at these ‘orphaned’ images we feel and sense the echo of the context of the missing film, without knowing the actual story. This creates a mysterious tension that makes the imagery deeply compelling on another whole level on interest. For me Kristina’s portraits evoke this same mysterious quality of suggesting a deeper story that we do not yet know..

(Now leaving essay mode)

Kristina’s Images Rock!"

"Kristina is very sensitive towards beauty in very classical sense that she puts, however, in new experiments every time. She has a true talent for photography and you can see that by every shot she takes."

"Kristina is creating photographs which are both real and imagined. She plays the role of object and subject to her photographs. She is playing a game with our (and probably her own) perception of herself and of reality. The pictures look as film-stills yet they feel real because Kristina hardly doesn’t use any digital tricks to enhance her images (at least she hasn't until now). The photographs are aesthetically very pleasing and at the same time most interesting because of their constant reference to universally recognizable cultural icons. In other words – I think what she does is very good and I keenly await every new photograph she downloads!"
