Hi, everyone. My name is Carlita and I’m a relatively new photographer.

I began taking photos regularly only about 9 months ago as a way to overcome writer's block and my constant "being inside my head." What I discovered was a wonderful new passion ... and a form of meditation that calms me, takes me outside of myself.

Here are a few other things about me, in ... actually some kind of order:

1. I (used to) live in Crete with a gorilla of a husband and our cat, Lucy.

Here is the husband, looking less than gorillery:

We are now en route to a new life and a new adventure in Oz (Australia). Look for fun photos of these new exploits in the days and weeks to come.

2. All of the photos that you see are from a five-year-old point-and-shoot camera. I've promised myself that if I still love photography by the end of this year, I can buy myself a "big girl camera" (read: DSLR) as a reward ... but not until then.

3. Photography is helping me finally see my world.

So far I have learned that:

- morning and evening are excellent times for photo-taking ... but they are not the only times good photos might be had (heresy! I know!)

- if high noon is all I’ve got, I shoot in black and white. Black and white plays beautifully with hard light to create stunning photos.

- editing is to photos what make-up is to women. If I’ve got a great photo, editing can only enhance its beauty. If I don’t, well, … putting make-up on a pig won’t make it any less a pig.

- sometimes my favorite photos are the ones that fail.

See? Perfection can be boring.

I am now endeavouring to complete the 52 Weeks Project 2012. Please do join me on my journey. Stop by, say hello, leave comments. I am good about following up and, if I like what you’re also doing, chances are pretty good that I will add you as a contact too.

Namaste and peace, everyone.

A few kind requests:
A. Please do not assume that because I am 1) a new photographer and 2) using a point-and-shoot that I extensively use post-processing. It is an unfair assumption and devaluates the effort I put into each photo. I do my best to create each photo in camera before hitting the shutter button. Post-processing is not error correction for me very often. It is usually enhancement, same as you.

B. Please do not spam me with award links. I do, however, appreciate an honest comment.

C. Please do not expect me to comment on your photos because you've commented on one of mine. I believe in truth and would rather receive (and leave) one honest comment with no strings attached than receive (leave) a gazillion that carry unreasonable expectations and ultimately have no meaning at all.
