I'm the son of an aircraft engineer, carrying on his memory as a private pilot and volunteer at an aviation museum. Married to Ann who is confined to a wheelchair following a series of strokes and is an insulin dependent diabetic.
I'm also interested in classic rail, road and water transport, I enjoy pics of vintage aircraft, steam trains, trams, classic cars and buses and old ships and the wider nostalgic scene with the street furniture and clothing styles of an earlier era.
I also have an Abbeys and Castles collection in which I showcase just a few of the historic buildings to be found in Scotland, England, Wales, Ireland and even Spain.
Following a leg injury which forced me to wear a kilt to work for a few weeks while I was unable to get into trousers, I discovered that in the new millenium the kilt is an acceptable option for everyday menswear and not simply as costume for a wedding or Scottish dance. Now that women mostly wear trousers, men are slowly reclaiming their historic right to the option to wear unbifurcated lower garments. Trousers are a modern invention of western society, to protect the inner thighs when travelling on horseback, and historically all men wore skirt like garments which prevent crushing and overheating in certain areas and are thus beneficial to male fertility. Many men would wear kilts or skirts but lack the confidence to be first in their neighbourhood, or believe that tartan kilts are the only option for men. On Flickr I model a collection of kilts and skirts, presented as male wear. These kilts and skirts were created for men to wear, and tailored to male waist/hip ratios, though I also illustrate the unisex skirt with elasticated waist. Tartans, camo prints or single dark colours such as black, charcoal grey, navy blue, or bottle green work well for a man's skirt, as does denim. A guy can look macho while skirted in a garment of tough material, with hairy legs, thick socks and boots. Almost all skirts designed for men in western society derive from the kilt and are therefore pleated and approximately knee length, but for those who dislike pleats, the jeans skirt has become a menswear option within the past few years. With its belt loops, cargo pockets and front zip fly the jeans skirt is now available in men's sizes.
I have a keen eye for ladies who wear classic floral print dresses and smart uniform skirts and I enjoy when they tease with a flash of a lacy slip. Many of my pics hark back to a bygone era when ladies wore elegant skirts and dresses. I look back with nostalgia to these vintage styles.
People often photograph me in my kilts and are usually happy to reciprocate by letting me take pics of them but occasionally I have been naughty and taken a few candids so if you recognise yourself on my photostream and don't want to be here just drop me a flickrmail and I will be happy to remove your pic.

"I first met Alex in Ayr in February 2008 while photographing a 1982 Leyland Titan bus. We had a good chat about buses that day and I still visit Alex's Flickr page on a weekly basis to see his fine work. He seems a cheery chap with real passion and dedication to photography and is a mind of information about most subjects. So a delayed Happy new year and all the best for 2009.

He is a great friend and I am honored that he finds my work worthy of comment and favour. I hope he keeps sharing his photography with us for a long time, and that his new camera matches his prowess as a photographer.
