Our early days were comprised of long late night hang-outs with different groups of friends, in different sorts of places, with different sorts of God knows what kind of booze served in front of us. These are often spiced up with comrades bursting their smoke-smelling throats into songs by Urbandub, Up Dharma Down and Taken by Cars.

But all of our late nights are not only spent trying to spell s-o-b-e-r properly or listening to the melancholic tunes of Jeff Buckley, we also meet in a common ground where visions and daydreams materialize.

We are aware that the undertow is just waiting, holding up for the perfect timing to eat us. But we also know that if we become mindful of the tide, we will be able to ride the wave smoothly, and perhaps be noticed by the others.

CERTAIN KIND of HUE is a collaborative photography and design team of Rick Manzano (www.projectmanila.com) and Paolo Ruiz (www.paoloruiz.com). None of them is an illustrator, nor a performance artist. But with cameras at hand and designing tricks in their pockets, they already have enough to get by.
