The Center for Wine Origins was created to educate Americans about the importance of location when it comes to wine, and to gain greater protection of wine place names in the U.S.

Our mission is to:

While excellent wine is produced around the world, it is important to know where your wine comes from. If you’re unsure, we encourage you to ask and demand that a wine’s true origin be clearly identified on its label. Truth-in-labeling is important so you can make informed decisions when buying and enjoying wines.

The place where a wine comes from is one of its most important defining influences. Yet, in the U.S., wine place names – including Champagne and Port – are misused on wine labels, making it hard for wine lovers to select an authentic wine from a particular region.
