Up to Aug 2010, these are all just photos taken for fun. Between August 2010 and August 2011, these pictures are part of my Thomas J. Watson Fellowship project to study and podcast about nature. I enjoy taking pictures of nature most of all, but anything goes. My photo techniques are not technically sophisticated; I concentrate on composition and let the fancy camera do most of the work. I've never had a photo class. I use a Canon Rebel that's a couple of years old with its decent kit lens, and sometimes a Sigma 70-300, or a cheap Opteka fisheye, or a Holga. Sometimes I use a polarizing filter and sometimes I use magnifying screw-on thingies until I can get a macro lens.

Other relevant facts: I love to bake giant white-chocolate chip cookies, I’m addicted to Barry’s Irish Breakfast Tea, I collect antique portraits, and my favorite insects are the syrphid flies.
