When my great grandmother passed away last year, my family discovered that she was actually quite a photographer.

Boxes upon boxes of photos were found in her storage room. Many of them showing travels to far off places like the Amazon, Casablanca, or Kenya. But most were simple snaps of her day-to-day life: the creamy brown shade of her afternoon cup of coffee, my great grandfather's immaculate appearance even when fresh out of bed, the little Maya birds she fed every morning. The list of daily treasures she put on film was endless.

It was only then I realized how we often take photos of those once in a lifetime moments, like parties and ceremonies, and rarely capture our day to day living. Many years from now, I'm probably not going to care very much about a bunch of crazy nights with five minute friends, but I know I'm going to want to show my children the simple, beautiful things I see on my way to work every day.

You get the picture.

(Thank you for the inspiration, Lola.)
