The Caribbean Photo Archive is a privately owned collection of original photographs taken throughout the Caribbean Islands, the Bahamas and Bermuda in the 19th century and early 20th century.
Caribbean islands pictured include Jamaica, Martinique, Barbados, Trinidad, St Vincent. St Lucia, St Kitts, Grenada, Curacao, St Thomas, St Croix, Dominica, Nevis, Montserrat and Guadeloupe.
Nearly every photographic format is represented including salt prints, albumen prints, gelatin silver prints, stereocards, carte-de-visites, cabinet cards, and glass slides
Subjects depicted include plantation life, natural disasters, tourism, hotels, markets, education, military, churches, architecture, government, home life and recreation.
We have tried to provide accurate descriptions and dates for the photographs but many of them came with no information, so we welcome comments and corrections.
We are especially interested in learning more about any photographers working in this area during the 19th century.
We are always trying to add to the collection so if you have for sale or trade any original 19th century photographs taken on or around any of the islands represented we would be interested in hearing from you.
