Cancer Schmancer’s Founder, President and Visionary, Fran Drescher, is a uterine cancer survivor who was misdiagnosed and mistreated for two years by eight doctors for a peri-menopause condition she did not have before being diagnosed with uterine cancer.

As the result of this experience, Fran wrote the New York Times bestseller Cancer Schmancer with the hopes that, in telling her story, she would prevent what happened to her from happening to others. However, when she went on her book tour, she realized that what happened to her had happened to millions of women like her. It was then that Fran realized the book was not the end, but rather the beginning of a life mission to ensure all women with cancer are diagnosed in Stage 1, when it is most curable.

To this end, Fran launched two not-for-profit corporations, the Cancer Schmancer Movement and Cancer Schmancer Foundation. The Cancer Schmancer Movement advocates for improved women’s cancer healthcare legislation while the Cancer Schmancer Foundation educates women on the risk factors, early warning signs, and tests that are available for early detection of all women’s cancers.

While many women’s cancers cannot be prevented, the survival rates and quality of life for women with cancer can be significantly improved through proper patient education and coaching, early detection, and timely, appropriate treatment. The five-year survival rate after treatment for Stage 1 breast and gynecologic cancers is over 90% while the five-year survival rate for these same cancers in Stage 4 is less than 30%.

Cancer Schmancer Movement Goals
1. Educate women on the risk factors and early warning signs of women’s cancers;

2.Transform women from patients into medical consumers by informing them of the most effective diagnostic tools and cancer screening tests available to detect cancer during Stage 1, when it is most curable;

3.Encourage women to become better partners with their physicians by being better prepared and armed with the appropriate questions when meeting with their doctors;

4.Change policies for women's cancer healthcare legislation to ensure all women are diagnosed in Stage 1 through mandates for basic diagnostic tools and cancer screening tests, and good medical practices.
