Hi, thanks for visiting Cactus County, good to have you here. Isn't it a lovely day? Let's have some lemonade on the porch.

Cactus County is a fictional, Epicurean utopia located in the desert of New Mexico, populated by atheists, scientists, philosophers, artists, rationalists, and generally by jolly good eggs.

I'm Gary Smith, an outsider artist, space & science nut, inventor of the "atheistick" and the other half of Mrs Kitsch (aka Kitsch&Curious) who is a proper artist. I used to work on the radio promoting other peoples creativity. I'd like to go back to it one day. Meantime, I'm being creative in my own right. Most of my work is centred round a secular celebration of the Day of the Dead Festival. So I paint a lot of skulls and cactus.

I had my first art show at Room 212 on Gloucester Road, Sept 2010. It was a joint show with my other half called "The Smith & Jones Museum of Folk Art". I've since had shows in Bristol at The Tobacco Factory, The Lazy Dog, The Louisiana, The Showroom (collaborative show), Cafe Grounded and the Totterdown Front Room Art Trail.

If you'd like to exhibit or purchase some of my work, please do get in touch.
