My first job was building furniture in a small shop in Salisbury Vermont back in 1985. Having always had an interest in Art, I moved to Boston in 1986 and earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Art Institute of Boston in 1992. With Illustration as my major, I began to design furniture in my free time.
In 1994 I opened a small antique repair shop in the South End. This was a great opportunity for me to build some of the furniture designs I’d been working on. Starting with thumbnail sketches, cardboard mock-ups, and recycled materials, my work began to take shape. From 1994 through 1996 I participated in the South End open studios. It was inspiring to see the reactions to my furniture designs. In 1997 I relocated my studio to Braintree Street in Allston, MA where I participated annually in Rugg Road open studios until 2000.
In 2000 I went to work for a larger fine cabinetry company. It was there that my focus turned toward drafting, veneer work, bent lamination, and traditional wood joinery. As a result my furniture has become more precise and traditional in both its construction and its appearance. Today, working from my home workshop, I continue to pursue projects of personal interest and I am available to take private commissions.
