I like what they say about me in LA :

“One of Europe’s upcoming star designer’s, Stephanie Burkhalter is making herself known by her sophisticated and innovative designs. Her rare designs have caught the eye of many including members of the entertainment community.”

But now I will tell you a bit of my story…

Once upon a time…

A little girl was playing with the make up of her mother, trying to wear her clothes too oversized on her, and trying to walk with the too big high heels of her mum…

The red lipstick on, and all dressed up, the little girl couldn’t forget to wear all the jewels she could find around. Ready, on the high hills, she went to show herself to her mum and she starts a catwalk walking with difficulties, stumblingly and laughing hard until she felt down. Her mum helped her smiling and said :

“If you don’t do a career in fashion, I don’t know who will do it “.

She was only 8 years old and was already looking on the fashion shows in TV fascinated about all this glittering World of Fashion.

This little girl was me, Stephanie.

A little girl born in Geneva, the french part of Switzerland, one of the smaller country in the world. A little girl already full of dreams that was expecting to conquer the world.

I was a very curious child, attracted by everything, always looking around to find some interesting things, developing a special interest in fashion, playing with my dolls and barbies that i was changing for hours, trying on them new outfits, cutting their hairs, put them some make up on with some pen, creating new outfits with some rugs or whatever could come into my hand.

However I also discover the drawing and painting the day my mum offer me an easel, brushes and colors. So I did my first canvas while i was on vacation in the mountain with a friend. Yes, a little Princess I was, with my blond hair and my blue eyes running in my Wonderland…

At school, the drawing class, was my favorite class. I became excellent in all the drawings I was doing. My professors were impressed one showing my drawing to the other one. I knew it was for me, while I was drawing I was feeling so good, I could express myself in the best way.

So I spent whole days in my room to draw, contained in my world of fantasy, my Wonderland.

Older, fashion was still fascinating me. So when I moved to Canada, a scout in research of new faces, found me on the street and gave me his card as he was interested in me being a model. So at the age of 19, I began an international models career which made me travel in every corner of the world and discovered a universe made by glitter which fascinated me totally.

Catwalks, Photoshootings were my full time life at this time, that I shared with a lot of very interesting persons I have met traveling all around the world. Because yes, I was traveling a lot, being between Milan, Paris and New York but also in other places I had the chance to discover. I had real great fun !

With this experience, I decided to unite the fashion with the drawing, and began a prestigious fashion school ” Marangoni ” in Milan.
I graduated in 2005 and worked with many Italian fashion companies, then started to draw my own collection under the name of BURKHALTER couture.

I returned then in Geneva, where, in my studio, I gave life to my personal creations and began to obtain success through a customer’s small circle in Europe as well as on the other continents. One of my client has been the famous Rockstar Courtney Love.

In 2008 is born my haute couture brand BURKHALTER couture… A Love Story with women started in the vortex of an ordinary spring, to never end up.

BURKHALTER couture is a full immersion in the attention turned to the new juvenile tendencies, combined to an inclined search through volumes and lines, maintaining nevertheless some classical and luxurious style.

A name projected in the future as its collections made of lines thought for a transgressive, sensual and sure of herself woman, created with the irony of a contemporary style in a WonderLand made of colored rugs, pearls, embroidery, buttons….

A style that we can see also in my ready-to-wear brand “Stephanie Burkhalter”.

Sorry but the “Tic Tac” of my Swiss Watch remind me I need to run to create other dresses for all the Princesses in the World, as I consider all Women to be “Princesses” .

It makes me feel the New “Alice in Wonderland” or I should say “Steph in Wonderland”. My Very Special Fashion Wonderland … between interviews, flashs of cameras, and all my beautiful clothes and high heel shoes…
