Budak is a freelance writer and editor who dabbles in photography. Explorations into the natural and human heritage of Singapore and Southeast Asia occupy his waking hours, which he tries to fill with lonely walkabouts through the city’s grubbier quarters and lesser known shores.

He also needs no excuse for a pint and tries to (gently) poke every cat and any other small animal he encounters. These bad habits are disapproved of by Angel the cat and Tweety the budgie, who share the task of housetraining budak to ensure he is fit for civil society. They are not always successful.

"Marcus (aka budak) is one of the most knowledgeable naturalists in Singapore, interested in almost everything that flies, runs, crawls, creeps or swims across his way. I especially enjoy his incredible shots of tiny creatures that nobody else would even bother to look at closely, and even less to spend time photographing them. He probably has one of the best photographic archives of Singapore wildlife."
