We are planters.
We started a sunflower guerilla in Brussels, Belgium.
We have a blog retracing our plantations on Brussels-farmer (in french)
We hope other planters will start a sunflower guerilla in their town.

Sunflower Guerilla Manifesto
Brussels-farmer
wild plantation of sunflowers in Brussels
(Sunflower Guerilla)

1. The sunflower is a positive plant. It does not consume many resources (little water and does not exhaust the ground). The fruits can be used as food for humans and are well-known for their dietetic benefits. The oil extracted from the seeds can be used directly as a biodiesel. The yellow colored flower constantly looking towards the sun induces a positive feeling.

2. Cities are overwhelmed by cars and their polluting gaz dangerous for our health. The use of sunflower oil as a biodiesel reduces the production of toxic fumes.

3. Cities are grey and the small apparent pieces of dirt are only used for dog shit. The sunflower brings his bright natural color to this environment and brings back life to these cemetary for canine excrements.

4. Cities inhabitants suffer regularly from stress and isolation. The act to planting is a simple gesture, carried out slowly, which invites to relaxation. This action also arouses the curiosity of the passers by and starts inevitably a conversation.

5. Sunflower planting doesn't require any knowledge at all. A child of 7 or 77 years of age can easily do it.

6. The price for seeds is small (a hundred seeds for 1 euro). One mature flower produces a hundred of seeds.

7. Originaly grown by native americans, the sunflower can be found today all over the world. So his wild plantation in the urban environment can be done in any city/capital with a temperate climate.

Brussels-farmer (sunflower guerilla) is not an organisation, nor an association. It's a civic act, done individually or as a group, for the purpose of flowering public spaces, creatively promoting green energies and improving it's own life quality. Anyone is invited to improve, recover, transform and/or adapt this action according to his own convictions.
