Since capturing my first 35mm image of men fishing in a boat on a lake, silhouetted at sunset (quite by accident), I have worked at capturing extraordinary images of ordinary moments. I spent twenty years learning film and print processes, photographing people and events to support my passion for B&W landscape and nature photography. I am still interested in the art of portraiture, but now spend more time and energy on my passion.

UPDATE: APRIL 2014

I have always loved looking at street photography, but never did much of it. I have recently started learning and doing this type of photography. It has re-ignited my original passion for photography! So you will see a marked change in the work in my photostream.... I am loving the new challenges, and re-connecting with what photography meant to me when I was young - the decisive moment being essential to the art.

UPDATE: JUNE 2015

My first full year (and a couple months) under my belt - still growing and learning and loving this work! I had a couple of 'rewards' for my efforts. One of my images was selected for publication in a curated book called "Capture Minnesota IV" put out by our local Public TV station - 1 of about 200 from over 40,000 submissions. And, more recently, one of my images came in 2nd place in the Observe Collective's 'Under Construction' competition and juried exhibition!! Both events have served to encourage me to keep exploring this image making.

*NOTE ON IMAGE STYLE: I recently began putting a border on my images posted here and elsewhere. There are two reasons for that. First, it is an homage to the late Mary Ellen Mark. While viewing as much on her as I could upon her passing (most of it viewed for the 2nd or 3rd time), I noticed in her personal spaces she had prints on the walls - all of which had a thin black frame around them. And second, I think it gives the images a more finished look ....a 'printed' look, if you will, and since I come from the days of film and an image didn't 'exist' in the world until printed, I wanted to bring that feeling to my work.
