the chickens & I ....

This is the visual history of our little family ....I am passionate about observing the world we live in, about music & flavours , life , books & reading, sleep, chicken, cooking, interior design, cilantro, travel, masala chai, people-watching, flowers, fragrances, staring, coconut milk and I am especially fascinated with taking photos of food.

....this is a kind of anthropology of the life of a Mother and her two sweet and lively little girls. The best thing about Flickr is learning about the importance of really paying attention to what you are looking at...about educating your eye and not taking your surroundings for granted and about capturing the spirit, essence, of the moment & collecting real-life memories so I can share them later...I want expand my boundaries.

I take pictures of my ordinary, daily and domestic life and record images of everyday existence in a straightforward way by simply capturing what is actually there. I also have some images of my pre-children era that show that I have travelled some...I was born in the Caribbean Island of Grenada and grew up in Caracas, Venezuela in South America so I also speak Spanish. Speak & write French occasionaly....

My motto? "Be more than you appear"

"Your photography is a record of your living, for anyone who really sees."
Paul Strand

"It's the way to educate your eyes. Stare. Pry, listen, eavesdrop. Die knowing something. You are not here long." Walker Evans

"Let us break bread together and celebrate our diversity."
—Desmond Tutu.

"Look for the beauty in things." ~ Maya Angelou

"Human beings are more alike than unalike, and what is true anywhere is true everywhere, yet I encourage travel to as many destinations as possible for the sake of education as well as pleasure " - Maya Angelou

"If you don't like something change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude. Don't complain" - Maya Angelou

"What we think, we become." Buddha

“We tend to forget that happiness doesn't come as a result of getting something we don't have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have.” Frederick Keonig

“There is something quietly civilising about sharing a meal with other people. The simple act of making someone something to eat, even a bowl of soup or a loaf of bread, has a many-layered meaning. It suggests an act of protection and caring, of generosity and intimacy. It is in itself a sign of respect.” Nigel Slater

"One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating." ~Luciano Pavarotti and William Wright, Pavarotti, My Own Story

I also love coconuts....and restaurants :-)
...a coconut...

I am a foodie because I love to cook, eat and I adore the smell of garlic & onions gently sauteing in a pan with olive oil & butter. I love the chemistry of cooking. The sound of it. I appreciate the care of preparing something your family will smile & lick plates and smack lips because of sheer delight...I adore the colours of food, like flowers and pure art on a plate. I love the dark, rich, delicious, exciting flavours of the things we ingest to keep us alive....If I do not take a picture of a food, how would it be preserved after it is eaten? I am crazy about deeply transformational food experiences, the beautifulness of it....and remember if you eat interesting things, then you really are what you eat :-)

.... food, in my opinion, should not be taken for granted...it is really a gift....

Bon Appetit ...

"This testimonial is long overdue as I have been following Masala Cha's work for over two years. I must confess that her pictures improve with each new restaurant she dines at and with every special family celebration she chooses to share with us through this medium.

If you can't stick to your diet, it may be through no fault of your own. The detail, color and lighting in Masala Cha's images of "edible art" are making mouths water and stomachs grumble in countries all around the globe. Each week the beauty of her extraordinary dishes - some common, some unusual - tantalize fans of her work who may not have been hungry until they happened to drop by.

While I have noticed that Masala Cha's photos of desserts seem to get a lot of well-deserved attention, I truly enjoy her images of appetizers and entrees. Her detailed descriptions, as well as her personal assessments of the food, are a nice touch as well."

"Takes the most awesome colorful pictures! Makes me want to retire on an island with whatever plate of food she's taken a picture of. Has the most beautiful daughters and really appreciates life. And that comes out in her pictures. : )"

"I love Brenda’s site but I must tell you that her photography is so good that it is quite likely that one can actually put on weight looking at, and envying, the delectable photos she takes of condiments, entrées, special of the day, or mouth-watering desserts --waiting to be consumed by hungry food voyeurs.

Her other photos of children, friends and landscapes are equally inspiring but certainly not a problem to the production of added calories.

If you must view her site, I suggest you have a slight snack of celery stalks or slices of carrot on hand -- least you be tempted to replicate the fine cuisine she so aptly presents to anyone who views her site."
