B69D - Trademark & Infographic

Thanks for Visiting
The B69D Archive of Concise Visual Communication is a collection of images documenting examples of trademarks, pictograms, glyphs, flags and other notorious symbols and graphic devices. Also included are notable examples of trade dress (including product packaging and vehicle liveries), and broader examples of branding strategies.

Raison d'Être
Humans have long devised and promulgated symbols, signs, and emblems to communicate ideas, and the art and science of concise visual communication has developed and progressed through many phases and disciplines. Ancient conventions in heraldry, vexillology, typography and cartography began humanity's endeavor to exchange information in more elegant (and visually-oriented) ways. Contemporary ideas in trademark design, wayfinding signage, icon/app design, and branding represent the latest developments in this field. The B69D Archive is born of an appreciation for these forms of communication, and of a desire to study them. This image collection is for the enjoyment and enlightenment of anyone with similar interests.

Intended and Legal Uses
All images shared here are released to the public domain, which means they are free for anyone to use in most any way he or she pleases. Public domain status does not provide for the use of these images in illegal activity (i.e. production of counterfeit merchandise) or the commision of fraud (i.e. assumption of credit for the image). In addition, any and all trademarks displayed here are property of their respective owners. The primary rationale for this public domain release is to allow interested parties to circulate these collected images about the web.

Legal Status of Photographic Materials
All photo files herein are securely in the public domain. They were either created by B69D or were clearly in the public domain before inclusion in the Archive. Visitors may use these image files as they see fit. All photos are flagged as such per Flickr's usage guidelines.

Legal Status of Scans, Screen Captures & Digital Art
All scan, screencap, or digital illustration files herein nominally use copyrighted materials; these are presented here under a claim of fair use. A public domain release of these materials may or may not be valid. The digital files shared here are created by the Archive and are intended for propagation, but these constitute derivative works, and ultimate ownership of the original source materials may lie with other parties.

Visitors are encouraged to use these image files for personal viewing, citation or hyperlinking, but to be cautious when circulating, hosting or otherwise using these particular files. All screen captures and art files are flagged as such per Flickr's usage guidelines.

Position on Intellectual Property Rights
B69D does not condone, sanction, or facilitate the violation of intellectual property rights. These images are not created and shared with an aim to aid counterfeiters, pirates, or terrorists: they are created and shared with an aim toward historical preservation, scholarly study, and museum-style viewing. The Archive believes this to be a legitimate case of fair use as regards copyrighted materials included here.

It is the intent of B69D to adhere to United States and international intellectual property laws, as well as to respect rights of privacy and publicity. Any parties concerned with these images and their display are requested to contact B69D directly at the e-mail address listed below.

Free Expression of Ideas
The Archive is suitable for all ages, and does not include vulgar, profane or pornographic materials. However, there are entries herein that some may find improper, divisive, controversial or offensive (such as religious or political emblems; or trademarks for alcohol, tobacco, firearms, or intimate products). The Archive will not redact, censor, or remove these items.

Donation of Materials
Anyone who wishes to donate digital photos or scans may do so by sending the files to the listed e-mail address, along with a declaration of rights transfer to either B69D or the public domain; the files, if published here, will be made available with no restrictions on use. Anyone who wishes to donate physical materials (such as ephemera or physical photographs) may please contact B69D via e-mail to arrange for shipping. Any and all donations are greatly welcomed and very much appreciated.

Contributions are credited or attributed according to the donating party's wishes and at the discretion of B69D.
