On the Edge of Nowhere

I am an unabashed amateur regarding photography. I just thoroughly enjoy the creative process and the often times amazing talent I've come across on this site. By checking out my favorites and groups you can pretty much get a good idea of my artistic sensibilities so you can make a reasonable judgment as to whether or not we have at least some similar optic and/or artistic interests.

Thanks!

"Greg is a nice guy with unimaginable talent. He's got a great eye for color and composition as you will notice as you wonder through his photos. He's also funny (or,...at least he thinks he's funny...) ;D No, seriously...He's got a great personality and helps make Flickr even more enjoyable. :)""

"In a world like flickr where we're nothing more than images and words, Greg does an exemplary job of revealing his true self through his art. Each image is striking upon initial glance, but what sets him apart are all the secondary and tertiary details that unfold as one stares at his images. The amount of information he's able to convey in a seemingly "simple" shot is just astounding....a true artist and a tremendous asset to the flickr community."

"Before getting on with my opinion of Greg's work, there are two things that first need to be said about me; In 9 months of flickr usage, I've put together a contact list of less than 40 people. Greg is one of those contacts.

There is a reason for both those points. I keep my list small specifically because I want to be sure not to miss any work by some of the most talented and interesting people on flickr and Greg is most definately one of those people. I look forward to his work, because he has one of the most singularly interesting perspectives on photography I've come across yet. His art is of the kind that can be enjoyable on a number of levels, and his photos are the kind that usually warrant a few minutes to sit and reflect to fully appreciate the meaning behind them. Aside from a completely unique aesthetic approach to composition and post processing, there is almost always an underlying metaphor or allusion to some piece of literature, history or pop culture that warrants further thought. More than once I've found myself on google looking up a refference made in his work and each time my appreciation for his work was magnified. Put simply, if you're only going to follow a few photographers on flickr, this is one you don't want to miss."

"As someone previously noted, the line between the pornographic and the erotic is extremely thin. Brain handles this with grace, when it is so very normal to step into the easy or trite, especially with the male body in print, and brain keeps the viewer on his/her toes by allowing us the chance to reconsider how we see men, but also, the world. Thank you."

"There is such a fine line between what makes an image erotic or pornographic. It takes a sensitive and bold photographer who can skate on the edge, who can make us want to see more, appreciate the less and keep us suspended somewhere in the middle where pain and pleasure become one.

Translating the body-scape of muscle and skin into works of art with a sculptor's precision, brain tunnel's sets take through his window onto the world of the curious and strange, chaotic and mesmerizing.

We become a voyeur as he grants us permission to look into the peep hole behind the lens, where curiosity and sensuality melt into a shadow play of saturation and composition.

His style is innovative, provocative and dynamic. No two shots are ever alike. He keeps us on our toes and impatiently anticipating the next body of work he chooses to share, and does so by leaving the door to our imagination open only a crack, so that we can see but can't touch. We can taste but we can't eat, we wonder but we can never really know for sure."
