I've been an amateur photographer since I was 5 years old. I'm somewhat color blind, so I've always favored black and white imagery, but I'll risk a color project now and then. My main interests are macro, large format (for which I'm using a Tachihara 4x5, a Toyo 45A, and a Sinar F2) and old rangefinders. I'm currently working with a Canon P and an Olympus XA (for beach and other cruddy environments). Isn't it great how cheap the best film gear is these days!

For family shots I'm mostly digital. I have a Nikon D300s, which does all I need, and a Sony NEX-3 for backpacking. I'd love to have the low light capabilities of a top of the line digital slr at my disposal, but I can't justify the several thousand necessary. Maybe in a few years...

My main grumble is that I don't have space for a large format darkroom right now. I can process film well enough, but the enlarger is on ice for the time being. I'm getting antsy enough that I'll probably see what the local university has to offer pretty soon. Scanning is a chore; printing is a joy.

Spotting is drudgery, of course, whichever way you go.
