Flickr is my stress ball
These days, everyone is an entrepreneur. Every unemployed, self-employed, work-from-home guy and gal puts "CEO" on their business cards.
What does it mean any more?
My flickr adventure coincides with my discovery of the digital SLR. I bought a Nikon D40 to capture the new parent-new child experience but now, I am hooked.
I am very much an amateur, but as a hobby, photography suits me--it is that sublime blending of the technical and the artistic; it plays in that funky groove where science and art collide.
Also, it lets me exercise my poetry muscles. I made a choice between code and poetry a while back. No regrets but I miss the whimsy and poignancy of haikus, quickly dashed-off or slowly simmered. When moved, I try to pair a haiku with each photo but I do snap faster than I write.
Tech
Okay, I am a little self-concious about sharing information about my toys. But, I am embracing the inner geek (and probably the outer one too) this time. I mostly shoot with a Nikon D90 and the Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G prime (equivalent to 50mm "normal" angle of view on a FF 35mm camera). That's about the newest lens I've got in my bag.

Lenses
50mm f/1.4G AF-S
Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 VC - My first real investment in a fast zoom. I thought about the Nikkor 17-55mm but couldn't bring myself to part with that kinda of koin; besides, I could get both the Tokina and Tamron f/2.8 for the price of one Nikkor zoom (sigh).
35mm f/1.8G - Cheap ($200?!), crazy fast and bright. An f/1.4 would be wasted on my crop sensor camera, plus the D90's high ISO performance lets me get away with slower lenses.
18-55mm 3.5-5.6 AF-S VR - my dinky little standard zoom. Love this little puppy
28-80mm G - for $20 this is my medium zoom, f/2.8 smoo-eight. Very sharp, very light, almost disposable.
50mm f/1.8D - a budget portrait nifty-fifty
