I was diagnosed with Alport's Syndrome when I was three years old. My kidneys failed when I was 14 years old. I was on Peritoneal dialysis for five years before getting a kidney transplant; my mother was the donor. I lost the kidney in 2004 and went back on Peritoneal dialysis. From having a previous transplant and also several blood transfusions, I have developed high levels of antibodies, preventing me from having a transplant. I am undergoing a somewhat new treatment to reduce those antibodies at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, CA. I will be getting a second kidney transplant on June 10th, 2008; my boyfriend, Joe, is the donor.

The transplant was successful and I am recovering at home. Joe is also doing well. He has already gone back to work!
