BLACK DIVISION's photostream

11th Armored Cavalry Division (Poland), also called "The Black Division" is the biggest tactical unit and the only panzer division in Polish Land Forces. Divisional units are stationed in eight garrisons in Lubuskie, Wielkopolskie and Dolnośląskie Provinces. Division HQ is located in Żagań.

Division's main task is to conduct combat missions in all terrain and weather conditions.

The main combat assets of “Black Division” are MBTs Leopard 2A4 and PT-91 „Hard”, IFVs BMP-1 and APCs Rosomak. Combat support is provided by artillery and anti-aircraft units equipped with 152 mm self-propelled howitzers Dana and 122 mm 2S1 Goździk, rocket launchers WR-40 Langusta, ground - to - air guided rocket system 2K12 Kub, and anti – aircraft combat vehicles 9K33 Osa, artillery and rocket sets ZUR 23-2KG, and anti – aircraft rocket system Grom. Anti – tank defence is provided with Spike missiles. Effective command and control is facilitated with the use of mobile and automatized information management system.

Systematic and professional training is the main means in the preparation of “Black Division” to execute its tasks. Soldiers are undergone comprehensive and specialist training to prepare them to accomplish their missions. During the training, priority is given to built-up environment operations, CAS and first aid as well.
