hello
Hello, my name's Mark but you can call me bitrot if you like.
me, in a nutshell
When I'm not working I take lots of photographs and write children's books. You've already found the photographs, and you can find the books here.
that horrid b word
I've got two blogs (because one blog is never enough): blogrot and The Twins of the Father. Pay them a visit! Blogs work a lot like Flickr: leave me a comment and I'll be as happy as a dog with a biscuit.
of bread knives and buttocks
Loads of my family are on Flickr, including my lovely bread knife and my long-term buttock double.
wanna be in my gang?
I've set up a few groups on Flickr. Have a look!

bitrot dna
A team of boffins led by Sir Richard Attenborough and Samuel L Jackson have isolated my DNA and it looks like this.

happy little grape
My buddy icon (known by my daughters as the happy little grape) was drawn by hand using Macromedia Fireworks (as it used to be called).
the moon-faced boy
If you're missing my previous buddy icon, the moon-faced boy, you can still find him on my blog.
so what do you really look like, bitrot?
This.
where else can I find bitrot things?
Here, that's where:
bitrot.net/
www.youtube.com/bitrot
www.vimeo.com/bitrot
@pigonwheels
one last thing: you don't by any chance write movie reviews do you, but only for films you really really hate?
How strange you should mention it - yes I do!
goodbye
Well, thanks for visiting. I really feel like we've got to know each other. Don't feel embarrassed about leaving a tip on your way out.
p.s. that weird banner thing that people have
I've got one too.

Mr Dayglo says:
"It is my sad duty to report that the previous testimonials pertaining to Mr Bitrot’s general niceness are misguided. Mr Bitrot is an evil genius – by appearing nice, helpful, talented and somewhat of a comedy linguist he is able to lull you into what appears to be a very warm and cosy world of the Manchester Flickr group. From here you will notice his evilness takes on a more subtle approach as you are slowly drawn into his rather amazing photostream. All the time your life begins to slowly ebb away and friends you once had in the ‘real’ world seem more and more distant. Even the seemingly innocuous “flickr meets” that he organises with such aplomb are just another way to lull you further and further into the world of photography and the flickrverse.
But seriously….
Mark is one of those rare human beings that appears to be flawless and with very few boundaries to their range of talents. I’m privileged to have met him and I genuinely enjoy his company and his photos. I commend this man to the house."16th June, 2008

markrellison says:
"Well, where does one start? Creative genius is an overused term but in Mark's case he could practically be the dictionary definition. Generous in praise and encouragement, imaginative and a technical guru. Oh, and he's a funny and nice bloke too.
Mark introduced me to Flickr and he's someone I constantly look for for inspiration and new ways to empty my wallet.
Keep it up dude, let the name Bitrot be spread far and wide!"13th April, 2008

Wooscary says:
"Mark is far too good at what he does. It would be nice if he'd slow down for a minute, so the rest of us could atleast half way catch up.
And to top it off he isn't really annoying or arrogant so you can't even hate him!"26th March, 2008

jonwild says:
"From the first time I saw them, Mark’s photos stood out for their professionalism, inventiveness and humour. They still do. What’s more Mark is a thoroughly good bloke whom it has been a real pleasure to meet, to learn from and be inspired by. He is always happy to share, to learn and to organise. He can claim credit for marshalling us rabble of Mancunian snappers into a photographic fighting force that is rightly the envy of the Flickrverse. And his talents don’t stop behind the lens, he’s a true polymath combining his picture-making with some wonderfully creative writing, blogging, webmastery and good humoured and generous technical support to those of us untutored in the ways of the ND and the RSS. I heartily recommend it all to you to enjoy."

"Well, what can I say? If you haven't yet had the pleasure of perusing through Mark's photostream, then you must do it now. And I can guarantee that you will return every day from then on!
Mark's photos are alwas a breath of fresh air - original, humorous, and technically perfect, they are an every day inspiration.
And as if that wasn't enough, he's a top bloke, patient teacher & endlessly supportive. And he never lets a shot go without a good chimp. I think we can all learn something from him ;-)"24th February, 2008

Richard Holden says:
"Not content with simply posting outstanding, imaginative photographs, bitrot's stream is constantly entertaining and all his comments around Flickr are insightful and/or funny. He is constantly helpful, friendly and encouraging and is more than happy to pass on his knowledge to a beginner. He is great at puns."

"Mark. Bitrot. Apple detracteur (of the 'in denial' variety) and photographer extraodinaire. From humour to some of the damn-best shots of a city I love. Everything's in the Flickr stream. And it's awesome."

D50Manchester says:
"Mark's photographs are one of the first thing I look for when I sign in to flickr. His sense of humour shines through in his work and he has shot some of the most imaginative photographs you will see on Flickr (or anywhere else for that matter) athough some of these shots are lighthearted and fun, his execution of his ideas are 1st class and he has a great understanding of light and colour. Mark is also equally adept at the more conventional side of photography and has produced some really beautiful, stunning pieces of work, just have a look through his sets and you will see what I mean!
Lastly (and probably most importantly) Mark is a really decent and honest fella and is one of the main contributors to the Manchester groups, he is also always willing to give advice to newcomers and ALWAYS replies to your comments. (unless he cant be bothered, and then he just ignores you)
Add Mark/bitrot as a contact, you wont be disappointed!"30th September, 2007

"I've known Mark since, oh, before we were born. I can tell you, that lad knows a thing or two about photographs. He's one of the only two people in the UK who can capture a look rarely seen on an Airedale, and we all know what happened to the other one."
