I have heard people say there is no happy medium between birding and bird photographing. You choose and stick to one or the other, and you do that one well.
Meet the happy medium - me!
My equipment includes a Canon Digital Rebel XT, with a 75-300 mm f/4.0 lens for the bird shots, and a 18-35 lens for the scenics. As of now, that's my entire equipment list.
